Celebrating the third successive Top Club Trophy

Thirteen members of the BWSC Masters team along with our coach, Jim Dobinson, competed in the 20th Isle of Wight Marlins Open Meet in February 2019.  And for the third year in a row was awarded the top team trophy!

This open meet provided a great opportunity for the team to compete as well as having a weekend away together.  The team swam a range of events from 800m freestyle to 100m and 50m swims covering all strokes, and the novelty of a 25m freestyle and butterfly dash! The aim was to score as many points as possible for the team, and in doing so Julian Halcox was awarded top male swimmer closely followed by Ian Daniell in second place.  Claire Moore took second place in the top female competition, just one point away from Top Lady. We also fielded male, female and mixed relay teams.

Our pre-race preparation was a sunny walk on the beach in Sandown and we celebrated our success over dinner and a few drinks at the Bargeman’s Rest in Newport.

We’re looking forward to returning to the Isle of Wight in 2020 – hopefully with a larger team.  Meanwhile we have an exciting race calendar for 2019 (not forgetting the BWSC Masters Open meet held on 2ndMarch) with meets scheduled at Fareham, Maidenhead, long course nationals in Swansea, SE region short course at Guildford and short course nationals at Sheffield in October.
