Swim England National Team Championships 8th October 2017, Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

Thirty one events, with combined age groups, 12/13, 14/15 and 16/17, 100m all events and 4x50m Medley relays and a mixed 6x50m Free relay.

Both Division One and Two competed for supremacy with 20 teams in division One and 17 teams in division Two. Yorkshire were the Winning County in division one with 456 points to Devon with 435.

Berks and South Bucks, our “Team” were competing in Division Two. Nigel Willis being the County Coach.

A great start for our team with a victory in the first event and a mix of results saw us in 4th place by event 8 with 115 points, Cambridgeshire were leading with 129. Some notable wins and top three finishes in the next seven events saw B&SB go top with 234 to Cambridgeshire’s 232.

The lead changed hands several times and in event 20, the Girls 14/15 100m Freestyle, Bracknell’s own Charlie Stevenson swam a 59.70 to achieve 5th place with our nearest rival in 8th, taking B&SB top again. Event 21’s result had us tied, but with victory in event 22 saw B&SB lead all the way there after.

Charlie also competed in the final two events. The 14/15 Girls 4x50m Medley in which her split for the Freestyle leg was 27.76 and the team finished 3rd. Then the mixed 6x50m Freestyle relay. There must have been an issue with the touch pads as the splits did not show for B&SB, but there was no doubt who won and by just 0.02 ahead of Cambridgeshire, it was B&SB of course.

B&SB were crowned as Divisional winners with 498 points to North Hants and Cambridgeshire both with 457 points.
