South East Winter Regionals 2022

This years Winter Regionals were held at Winchester Leisure Centre.
With the swimmers freshly back from their warm weather camp, they were set to show off what all their hard work had done!
Day 1
Session 1
The first session saw a large cohort of BWSC swimmers ready and raring to go.
First up was Antoni Kepa in the Men’s 200m Freestyle. After a strong back half, Antoni was able to claim a new seasons best time. The Ladies 100m Backstroke saw swims from four Bracknell swimmers. Charlotte Morris and Bella McBride had strong swims with Edith Hamilton and Jessica Humm setting new PBs.
The Ladies 200m Butterfly saw Dasiy Dewsbury setting a new PB and qualifying for Winter Nationals in a storming heat! Antoni and Leo Nichols competed in close 50m Backstroke heats with Antoni setting a second season’s best and Leo setting a new PB too. Leo and Aden McCarthy took on the challenge of the gruelling 400m Individual Medley. Leo missed his PB and 0.01 and Aden set a new PB!
Session 2
Session 2 saw Jess up first in the Ladies 100m Freestyle where she set a new PB. Antoni continued his streak of setting new seasons bests in the Men’s 50m Freestyle.
The Men’s 200m Backstroke saw Aden, with some very tired legs, set a new seasons best and Antoni getting his second fastest time. In the final ladies event of the day, 50m Butterfly, Daisy set her 2nd PB of the meet. Day was rounded off by Leo in the Men’s 100m Individual Medley with another personal best.
Day 2
After a brilliant first day of racing the swimmers were set and ready to go for day 2.
Session 3
The morning started with Jess setting a new seasons best in the Ladies 200m Freestyle. In his debut Bracknell appearance, Hayam Ukkash set a new PB in the Men’s 50m Breaststroke. Next up was a new PB from Maya Smith in the Ladies 100m Breastroke with Aden and Antoni following with PBs in the Men’s 100m Backstroke.
In the Ladies 100m Butterfly, Daisy continued her strong performance, not only getting a PB, but also qualifying for Winter Nationals! Aden braved the 200m Butterfly with a gutsy swim. The Ladies 50m Backstroke saw good swims from four Bracknell swimmers: Edith, Bella, Charlotte, and Jess. In the Men’s 200m Individual Medley, Leo continued his PB streak, completing the event in less than 2:20 for the first time!
Issy Thorpe’s first swim of the weekend saw her set a 3 second PB in the Ladies 400m Individual Medley.
Session 4
The Bracknell swimmers were out in force again for the final session of the weekend.
Antoni, in a very close race, narrowly missed his PB in the Men’s 200m Freestyle. In one of the fastest heats of the Ladies 50m Freestyle, Jess set a new PB. Two Bracknell swimmers, Ollie Richards and Leo, smashed their PBs in the Men’s 200m Breaststroke. The Ladies 200m Backstroke saw some tough swims from Charlotte and Bella. In Antoni’s last, very tired, event of the weekend, he got his sub-30s swim in the Men’s 50m Butterfly.
The Ladies 100m Individual Medley rounded up the weekend with four Bracknell swimmers. Issy, Bella and Flo Taylor lead their heats and smashed their PBs, whilst Jess placed 3rd in the juniors gaining not only a bronze medal, but also her Winter Nationals qualifying time!
Well done to all who raced, it was a fantastic weekend of swimming!
