British Masters Championships 2022 – Aberdeen Aquatics Centre June 17th-19th.
June 19, 2022
Three Bracknell & Wokingham Swimming Club Masters travelled up to Aberdeen for the return of these annual Long Course Championships (swam in a 50m Pool).
Jevgenijs Putans, John Williamson and Terry Wright. All three returned triumphant with seven medals and nine BWSC Masters Club records between them.
John started the campaign in the 1500m Freestyle with a 4th place, this then followed with the 100m Breaststroke where his first Silver medal was earned and also his first Club record. John is now in the 80-84 age group. His next event was the 400m Freestyle where his finished just short of his own record, but with a Bronze medal. His second Silver and Club record came from the 50m Backstroke, reducing his own record. His final swim brought his third record and the well deserved National Champion title, Gold in the 50m Breaststroke.
Jevgenijs, in the 40-44 age group, swam in the 200m, 100m & 50m Breaststroke events, all were Club records. In the 200m event he took an amazing 20 seconds off the existing record and picked up his Bronze medal. In the 100m event it was a shaving off the record for a 4th place, then in the 50m event another super quick time with a reduction of 8 seconds from a record that had stood since 2004.
Terry, in the 60-64 age group, achieved the first of two Bronze medals from the 200m Breaststroke and in doing so set a new Club record. His 50m Freestyle resulted in breaking another Club record, this one was 20 years old. In the 400m Freestyle event he took a second off the Club record and an 8th place. In the 50m Butterfly his second Bronze medal was achieved and in the final swim, the 800m Freestyle he was 4 seconds away from his own record set in January of this year, 6th place.
This annual event alternates between being held in Scotland, Wales and next years hosts England, hopefully not so far to travel. The next major events are the short course ones (swam in a 25m Pool), County in September, Districts in the beginning of October and Nationals at the end of October. So it is back to the training plan set by the Masters Coach, Jim Dobinson.
