Kathryn was part of a small GB team that swam in the Downs Syndrome European championships in Ferrara, Italy in October.

To participate in the competition (from 5 to 11 October) over 500 athletes from 17 countries (Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, France, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, United States) who competed in eight disciplines: athletics, five-a-side football, judo, swimming, synchronized swimming, basketball, tennis, table tennis.

Kathryn got into the finals for 7 of her 8 events and her best results were 5th in 100 fly (with a 5 second PB) and 5th in 400 free. She also got 4 bronze relay medals form the Mixed 4x50m Free, the Ladies 4x50m and 4×100 Medley and the 4x100m Free events, a fifth bronze was oh so close, less than a second away in the Mixed 4×50 Medley

Overall, the team did well but were out swam by other nations whose swimmers are funded and are classed as elite athletes so did not have to stop swimming for COVID.

Now it’s back to training for the Para Nationals in December 2021, Masters Long Course in January 2022 and the next Down Syndrome World Championships in Portugal October 2022.
