Swim England South Long Course Masters, 18th & 19th January 2020
A competition shortly after the start of a year is always a good test on how the training has gone over the Christmas and New Year. The Masters Long Course District event is always in January. 17 Bracknell & Wokingham Masters travelled to Crawley with Jim, Masters Coach, for what proved to be a great weekend.
29 BWSC Masters Records, 18 Gold, 7 Silver and 9 Bronze medals.
Claire Moore and Bridget Bewick, both in their new age groups took 15 records between them and 6 medals. Claire won her 400m & 800m Free, Silver in the 50m Breaststroke. Her 100m & 200m splits in the 400m event were records and these were quicker in the later 800m event along with an improved 400m split. Bridget won the 200m Backstroke, 200m Breaststroke and 400m I/M, records for all three and also the 50m & 100m Breaststroke and 50m Butterfly.
John Williamson achieved Gold in his 50m Breaststroke and Silver in his 400m Free, Mandy Johnson was third in her 200m Fee and Jenny Crittenden came 3rd in her 200m Breaststroke and third in her 400m I/M. In the same event Kirsty Johnson was second and she also achieved Gold in the 200m I/M and Bronze in the 50m Free. Ian Smith also swam the 200m I/M and with a bronze medal, he was just outside his own club record.
Triple success for Jevgenijs Putans in the three Breaststroke events, all with club records, Silver as well for the 100m & 200m distance.
Gold medals were achieved by Kathryn Martin in her 200m Backstroke, Charlie Madden in his 100m Breaststroke (club record), Huw Jones in his 50m & 200m Backstroke (club records) and 200m Free, Clair Baynton in her 800m Free. In this event she broke the club record for the 100m & 200m Free. Caroline Madden also won and set a club record in her 800m Free as did Amy Vaal who broke her own record having just won the 100m Breaststroke some events earlier. Huw also won the 200m Freestyle and was third in both of the 50m & 100m Free.
Julia Hodgson swam a best time, club record and gained the bronze medal in her 50m Backstroke
Three records and five medals to go. Gary Dressel won his 400m Free with a new club record, the came second in the 100m Free and won the 200m Free. The final two records were from the very talented Terry Wright in his 200m Backstroke, an event he simply loves and then the 800m Free, both came with Bronze medals.
A small team travels to the Isle of Wight on the weekend of the 8th February to try to retain the Top Club Trophy, then there is the Long Course Swim Wales event at the end of February. In March we have Bracknell’s own Masters competition that will be in its 25th year with a special 25 x 25m Free relay. In April it is the British Masters Long Course in Sheffield and in June there is the European Masters in Budapest.
