SER Winter Regionals

BWSC Swimmers competed in the Swim England South East Open/Junior Winter Championships 2021 (SC) on 6th and 7th November in the new 50m Pool at the Winchester Sport and Leisure Centre. Bracknell and Wokingham had 8 swimmers qualify for this meet and all competed strongly.
Day 1
Session 1
Antoni Kepa started the meet with a bang, dropping 2 seconds off his 200m Freestyle PB. Sam Law Chin Young gave a great effort in his first race of the weekend in the 100m Breaststroke.
Next up was Jess Humm and Charlotte Morris in the 100m Backstroke. With some very close heats, both girls beat their personal best times. Jess placed 9th fastest junior at the meet.
Gutsy Daisy Dewsburry took on the gruelling 200m Butterfly with a fantastic heat swim. She knocked 2 seconds off her personal best time and collected a 10 top finish in the junior category.
Finishing off the first session of the weekend, Antoni stormed through his heat to take his second PB of the session in the Men’s 50m Backstroke.
Session 2
The evening saw more great swimming with Jess finishing 7th in the Women’s 100m Freestyle, just dipping under the 59 second barrier for the first time. Next up was Sam in the splash and dash 50m Freestyle. Antoni, looking to continue his success from the first session, powered through the 200m Backstroke, finishing with another PB.
Our butterfly Daisy was up next with the slightly easier 50m Butterfly getting a new PB and sneaking under the 30 second barrier for the first time. The final race of the day saw Antoni and Sam racing in the Men’s 100 Individual Medley.
With some close heats and tough swims after a long first day, they both swam well paced races, with Antoni placing 9th in the Junior category.
Day 2
Session 1
Sunday morning opened with Jess storming the Women’s 200m Freestyle.
Dipping under her PB, Jess added another Winter National time to her already impressive list.
Next were the sprint breaststrokers, Ethan Donovan and Sam, competing in the Men’s 50m Breaststroke. This was Ethan’s first event of the weekend and he was rewarded with a personal time. Maya Smith took part in the Women’s 100m breaststroke.
After a day full of swimming, Antoni was back in action in the Men’s 100m Backstroke. With a well raced swim, he was rewarded with a PB and his 2nd top 10 placing: 8th in the junior category. Daisy completed the triple fly events with the Women’s 100m Butterfly.
Jess and Charlotte continued from their previous success in 100m Backstroke, with both gaining PBs in the 50 Backstroke. The session was brought to a close with a good effort from Sam in the Men’s 200m Individiual Medley.
Session 2
Antoni had a strong finish in the Men’s 100m Freestyle to set another PB from the weekend. Jess continued her weekend’s success with the Women’s 50m freestyle, not only placing 2nd in the Junior category but also placing 3rd in the Open category! For his final event of the weekend, Sam swum a tough 200m Breaststroke.
Charlotte and Jess completed the backstroke events with the 200m Backstroke. Jess finished off her great weekend with another top 10 finish, this timeplacing 7th in the Junior category. Antoni in his final event of the weekend set yet another personal best in the 50m Butterfly.
The very final event of the weekend saw Jess Humm and Issy Thorpe swimming the fast pass 100m Individual Medley with Jess getting her final top 10 junior position, placing 8th.
After what can only be described as a successful event, all swimmers walked away proud of their performances.
